Restaurants
Rethymon:
Restaurant Avli and Castello
Both can be found in the old center behind the Rimondi fountain.
Both have very good menu and nice gardens. Slightly more expensive than the average Greek restaurant.
Restaurant Othonas
If you stand with your back to the Rimondi fountain, you walk straight into the shopping street and find the restaurant on the right. Extensive menu such as delicious Meze (small snacks).
Mesi/ Loutra
Restaurant “Hoveli”
From our house on the main road and left (the road from Loutra to Arkadi). After approximately 500 meters on the right-hand side. Specialty “lamb meat”.
Restaurant Kastro
From our house on the main road and left (the road from Loutra to Arkadi). After about 400 meters take the road to the right towards Mesi. After approximately 2 km you will find the restaurant with a beautiful garden on the right-hand side.
Pigi
Restaurant Zorba’s
From our house on the main road and right towards Rethymno / Platanes. Just before the tavern in the village Pigi, turn right into a small street. After about 75 meters on your right you will find the beautiful outdoor terrace of tavern “Zorba”. Simple, but very tasteful Greek cuisine. Well worth it.
Maroulas
Restaurant Fantastico
Located on top of the mountain, with a beautiful view over the whole of Rethymnon, the harbor, sea and mountains.
From Loutra towards Rethymno / Platanes you can take the road to Maroulas via Agia Paraskevi or turn left in the village of Tsesmes towards Maroulas into the mountains. Go through the village of Maroulas and follow the signs.

Pigianos Kampos
Taverna Akrogiali
From Loutra via Arsani monastery to the coast. Turn left under the highway overpass and take the coastal road that runs parallel to the highway. After about 1 km you will find the taverna on the right side of the beach. Great local food, very affordable and friendly staff. Wonderful salads and fresh fish. Located on a small beach and is ideal to visit with small children.
Others
In addition, there are nice local tavernas in the various mountain villages that are certainly worth a try. If you see a lot of locals, the menu is generally good. The price of the food / drinks is also generally very low at these tavernas.
Pharmacy / hospital
Pharmacy
From our house on the main road and turn right towards Rethymno / Platanes. Just before the tavern in the village of Pigi, turn right into a small street. After about 150 meters on your right you will find the pharmacist who speaks perfect English.
General practitioner
From Loutra direction Rethymno / Platanes. Pass through a tunnel under the taxi stand and turn right before the BP pump. Follow the coastal road for about 2 km to Adelios Kampos. On your left you will find a sign with a red cross as a landmark. Here is the doctor. Speak Dutch, English, German and French.
Hospital
The hospital is located in Rethymnon, behind the city park. This is right in the center.
Shoppings
Bakkery
From our house on the main road and turn right. Follow the road and right after the gas station on the On the left side of the road you will find the bakery for daily bread and tasty cookies.
Supermarket Loutra
From our house on the main road and head towards Rethymno / Platanes. Just after the village of Loutra you will see on the right side the new local supermarket.
Market Rethymno
On three days a week, Monday, Thursday and Saturday there is a market in Rethymno where you can buy fresh vegetables, fruit and local delicacies. Textiles and trinkets are also for sale.
Butchery
In the village of Pigi you will find the local butcher on your right in the narrow street next to the tavern. Delicious fresh meat, bread and a number of fresh products are available here
Supermarket Lidl
Follow the road as above further out of the village of Tsesmes. The road bends slightly to the left and follows it. Just before the road turns right to Platanes you turn left into a small street.

Beach
The beaches near our house stretch from Skaleta to Rethymno and have a total length of approximately 14 kilometers. Here you can find several nice places. A selection from this:
Platanes
From Loutra direction Rethymno / Platanes. Pass through a tunnel under the taxi stand and turn right before the BP pump. Take the first street to the left after 100 meters. Here you will find a wide beach with both a luxury restaurant (near hotel) and a kiosk. Umbrellas and sun beds for rent. There are rocks on the coastline and the sea and it quickly becomes deep.
Rethymno
Beach in Rethymnon opposite Hotel Kriti-Beach (just in front of the harbor) is a very wide sandy beach. Here you can easily walk into the sea. There are no stones in the sea here, so ideal for children.
Petres
Take the highway towards Rethymno / Chania. Ca. 15 minutes past Rethymno you will find “Asterias beach bar” on the right-hand side of the exit for Episkopi. Nice wide sandy beach, nice playground for children and great food.

- Castle “The Fortezza” (in the center of Rethymno)
- Market in Rethymno: on a large parking lot at the city park (on Thursdays); along the beach near Fortezza (on Saturdays) and at the beginning of the town of Rethymno, behind the Mushroom supermarket (on Mondays).
- Museum in Eleftherna, antiquities and excavations. Also nice walking tour along various excavations in the mountains.
- Walking tour in the Mili- , Imbros- or Samaria gorge.
About us
After many nice holiday years in Crete (Rethymnon) and the desire to own a dream villa on this beautiful island, we found a beautiful piece of land in the year 2009 among the olive trees, on which we were allowed to build a villa. At the end of May 2011 our villa was delivered to full satisfaction. The tranquility and the fantastic view of the sea make it a unique place for us. We also give you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the hospitable people.
